"The priority of the Western governments, including the United States, is not the human rights of the people in Saudi Arabia or the people who live there or in the region as a whole,” said Ali al-Ahmed, the director of the Institute for (Persian) Gulf Affairs (IGA).
The Western powers prefer to secure the regimes which tend to cooperate with them and implement their policies, the analyst added.
He made the comments in the wake of the release of a newly-leaked video of a shabby and overcrowded prison in Saudi Arabia which depicts a significant level of the inmates' rights violations by the Riyadh regime.
The kingdom has long been well known for its mistreatment of prisoners, torturing them as well as keeping them in unfavorable conditions, which may even lead to their death.
Ahmed pointed to the widespread epidemics in Saudi prisons, including HIV and liver diseases and noted that the Saudi inmates lose their lives "on a weekly basis” due to lack of proper food and healthcare.
IGA director censured the West's inaction towards the widespread rights violations across the Persian Gulf kingdoms and argued, "The silence of the Western powers is due to the fact that they consider the people of the region to be their enemies and they continue to be hostile toward them.”
