The statue of Martyr Marwa Sherbini, known in the world as the martyr of Hijab, will be unveiled in a ceremony in Tehran on Thursday, July 11.

This is according to Minoo Aslani, head of the Women’s Basij Society, who said that the ceremony will be held at 10 in the morning with the participation of a number of state officials and Basiji women.

She said statues and monuments symbolizing women’s resistance will be set up in cities in provinces of the country, too.

Ms Aslani further referred to the activities of Women’s Basij Society, saying that several conferences and programs are planned to be held on August 3, to mark Basiji women national day. She added that the programs will introduce the capabilities and achievements of the country’s Basiji women.

Marwa Sherbini was an Egyptian woman studying in Germany who was stabbed to death in July 2009 in an attack by an Islamophobic German. Her martyrdom drew widespread international criticism.
